Aesthetic has become a very popular and important issue nowadays, whether its about our body, or office, or home. The dermal applications like botox, collagen fillings, etc are very common and easily reachable. The teeth are also one of the inseperable and dominant parts of the face. A person, who has crowded, discoloured, disharmonious teeth, may look ten years older than he is, even he has a perfect skin and other parts of face. In this context the teet should be evaluated with the face for aesthethic.

The golden ratio is a geometric and numeric proportional correlation, which is considered to give the precise relation between the parts of a total in mathematics and art. According to this concept all the teeth should have a proportional dimension and shape compared to eachother, lips and the rest of the face. The upper teeth should be aligned trough the smile line of the lower lip with a soft touch. To reach this goal, porcelain or composite laminate veneers and/or orthodontic treatment can be used. While the patients with any or mild crowding are suitable for laminate veneers, the patient with moderate to severe crowding may benefit from orthodontic treatment. For a fast solution full porcelain crowns can be considered instead of orthodontics.

Laminate veneers can be produced from two different materials: Composite and porcelain. There is also two different methods to get composite laminate veneers (CLV): direct and indirect. Dental laboratory work is required for indirect CLV. Even this method is technically more difficult and expensive than the other one, it is considerably more aesthetic. The direct method is like a regular anterior composite filling with more than two different aesthetic anterior composite resins are being used. This method is the common one in aesthetic dentistry due to its low cost and short treatment time.

Indications of Composite Laminate Veneers

To mask the superficial discolouration on the tooth surface
To fix the bad shape of worn and/or broken tooth edges
To reclaim the aesthetic appearance to the anatomically distorted tooth/teeth
To elongate the anterior teeth for more exposure, design the smile line
To repair the broken tooth, especially single tooth breakage cases
To close the spaces (diastemas) between the teeth

(the closure of diastema with porcelain laminate veneers)

(Elongation of the teeth, fixation of breakages and smile line design with CLV)

(repair of single broken tooth with CLV)

(the treatment of worn areas and caries’s of the neck regions of teeth with CLV)

The Contraindications of CLV’s

In existence of protruded lower jaw and anterior teeth
High caries rate
Insufficient oral hygene
Too much consumption of tobacco, coffee and tea, etc..
Advantages and Disadvantages of CLV’s

There is no need for preparation on the teeth to apply CLV’s, if the main reason is aesthetic. So, is it a reversible implication. But if there is ant breakage and/or caries, then the tooth should be prepared for the restoration.

Because there is no need for preparation, also there ,is no need for anaesthesia. Patient with dental phobia may easily accept this kind of treatment.

Usually the treatment ends in one session, which is a very satisfactory feature of CLV’s.

Composite is a softer material than enamel. So it did not cause to tooth wear and harm on the opposite site.

CLV is much more economic than porcelain laminate veneer. In case of breakage, it can be easily fixed or renewed.

If the patient is not happy with hs/her new appearance of the teeth with CLV’s, they can be removed without any harm to original ones.

Beside all this advantages of CLV’s, the tendency to discolouration with tobacco and coffee consumption and not enough surface reflection due to the material features are the disadvantages of them.

PastedGraphic-1What is Porcelain Laminate Veneer?

Porcelain laminate veneer (PLV) is a kind of dental restoration, in which a very thin layer of porcelain is bonded on the teeth after a preparation of 0,3-0,7 mm.

The Advantages of PLV

While the porcelain is very thin, its reflection and permeability of light is very close to a natural tooth, which allows to get ultimate aesthetic result.
The preparation amount is just as thick as a nail.
Because the porcelain surface is very smooth and stable, it is very resistant to stain.
It is very resistant to wear.
The Indications of PLV’sdigital-smile-insert-2

Bad shaped teeth
If the teeth not respond to any whitening method on the anterior region
To close the diastema
If composite restorations are not sufficient to obtain good aesthetic results
If the anterior teeth are broken and/or worn
Congenital and genetic tooth form and colour disorders
In minor crowding cases as an alternative to the orthodontic treatment
